Why Goat Milk Soap?

I get a lot of questions as to why goat milk soap. Why did I start? Is this a life long dream? The long and short of it is that I have goats. I need them to pay for themselves. It is too expensive for me to get a dairy license. Also, a license is not feasible as I do not have dozens of goats. Therefore, soap and body products made from goat milk helps me to rationalize the cost of feeding them.

That is the analytical rationalization. The artistic and emotional answer is that I love making soap. I enjoy the creativity balanced by science. I also think its fantastic to look at my garden and use as many natural products as I can in that batch of soap. I get great looks when I tell them the soap is made with fresh cucumbers or crushed tomatoes. Goat milk, however, is my base.

Why?

  • Most soaps on the market today are not, by definition, soaps but according to the FDA are synthetic detergent products.

  • Goat milk is less likely to cause an allergic reaction than soap made with synthetic materials.

  • Alpine goat milk has a pH of roughly 6.7 which is far lower than most soaps sitting on the store shelf and closer to the pH levels of our skin.

  • Soap made with goat milk is a very gentle exfoliant and chock full of alpha-hydroxy acids that soften the skin.

  • Goat milk soap has vitamins such as A (anti-aging), C, E and a few Bs for good measure in addition to amino acids and natural enzymes that

  • Because goat milk soap is made by substituting the water that regular soap is made with goat milk, the soap is creamier.

  • Goat milk is high in both saturated and unsaturated fats which increase the lather and provides moisture.

  • As goat milk is high in lipids it is not as likely to tear down the lipid barrier in our skin, this could allow a reduction in wrinkles, delay skins of aging and reduce skin inflammation.

So, you can see, this makes a great base for my soaps. It makes me proud to make such high quality soaps full of milk from my very own goats.
